Longtems Depuis Longtemps

It sure has been. Since last we spoke I've done work for Field and Stream, Runner's World, Seattle Metro, Bust, PlanSponsor and The Scientist. The Leviathan was in The Society of Illustrators' Sequential show. Several other things happened, also, like the new comic for TOR:

So I know and you know that I've been remiss about keeping up with this thing. My room mate and fellow illustrator, Adam Schmidt, has devised a new, improved, and literally fail-safe system to ensure that I stay up to date with these posts, whether I dubiously like it or not. He's the man responsible for the site redesign. He does other things, besides updating and improving my life. You can find them here at: http://www.aschmidtstudio.com/

Thanks also to Mme. Schmidt for the title of the new comic, Montmartre a Trois (insert that accent grave over the 'a'). Could not have done it without her. She retires from the french teaching racket in eight days or less, so put your hands in the air an congratulate her on a job well and finally done.

Here's the cover image for the Tor Comic. Y'all go and check it out now. Bon weekend!

Depuis Last Time

Here's me doing the Threadless thing. Not a winner, though it's not whether you win or lose, but how you etc.

These were a series for SooJin the Great. Enjoyed the color here more than usual.

Here's some thing for Burn After Reading. Couldn't have watched a better movie after the past eight years. Anyway, look, Ma! Likenesses!

Here's my spot for the Times Book Review. I was allowed fuzzy borders, something that always seems to agree with me.

Some nice person asked about my process a while back. I won't go into particulars, as there really are not all that many. I make sketches, then a finished drawing, then an ink, and finish the whole thing off by coloring digitally. Should sound pretty familiar. You want details on what makes me so neat, you'll have to pay extra. Not sure what that means to me. Anyway, take care every-one. Enjoy. Talk soon.

Addendum

Things in the sketch book.

Oh, and I suppose it's bad to post process sketches and not the finals. Here are the cartes postals for the famille down south.
Presently is very much yesterday. Speaks to how unsuited to this I really am. Things have happened, like usual.

I was in the Times again. Here's the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/22/books/review/Cohen-t.html

But that was back in June. I hope I get to do more, better, broody pieces about waspy dysfunction later on.

Hey, also I did this thing I liked for SooJin and PS6.08. I think that was the issue. Actually, no, because I made this in June. It was July. Haven't really gotten it in the mail yet. Anywho, the color is better than usual. As you can see, I'm doing my best to embody Irene Gallo's gracious description of me as articulate. Moving on.

Speaking of Irene, and all things TOR, my first published comic is out on TOR.com. It's the main reason I haven't posted in a while. My editors, Liz and Gina were incredible. Incredible in that I'm surprised they didn't astral-project themselves to Brooklyn and chastise me forcefully for not taking more of their editorial suggestions. There was a time crunch at the end, and some other interpersonal snafus (awful word), but at least it came out not looking all that bad. Which appears to be the general consensus online. I know that some people take issue with how oblique the thing is. If you have a specific question or problem with how I chose to do things, please send me an email and I'll talk to you. I want to start posting a daily every other week with colored Sunday pages. I'll want all the constructive tear-downs I can get. Find the comic online at http://tor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=comic&id=625&page=1

Sincere thanks to everyone who helped to make this possible.

Also, look at this creepy thing that I got away with. I have more fun every day.

Hope you enjoyed the summary. There's more, but the post is long enough. Right?

Presently

Here's what I'm working on at the moment.  In the finished ink the figure in the truck's a little weak.  So I'll just lay some trace over him and, well, you know...

I'll try and have the finals up by the beginning of next week.  Y'all have a pleasant day now.

Improving Hamstrings

It's funny, what you decide to color and what ends up being not worth it. It's a week since I moved in. Most of my time has been spent on domestic projects. I've all but mastered the first lock on the building and my hands feel like they're made of murphys soap. Yellow and lustrous.

Transplant

Tomorrow's moving day. Thanks in advance to all of my helpers. Consider this a place holder for everything that's happened in the past few days. Later I'll show anyone who wants to look pictures of the new place with all of my boxes piled inside, and some new drawn images too.
